This is a short 5.5 km paddle ideal for beginners who aren't sure if they could handle the longer
Balmain Paddle
.
We start with a short instructional session on land then we paddle from Lavender Bay to Blues Point which is fantastic spot for photos with the Harbour Bridge and Opera House as a backdrop. We round Blues Ponit paddling west into Berry's Bay.
Berry's Bay is bounded by the suburbs of McMahons Point, Waverton and the bushland reserve of Balls Head. Our paddle follows the shoreline past some of Sydney's most expensive residential properties, boat building yards, marinas, an old Quarantine Station and Balls Head bushland reserve.
You will probably see yachts such a Fidelis, which won the Sydney to Hobart in 1966 setting a new race record. The more modern competitors are often seen at Noakes Boatyard undergoing maintenance and refit. In 2012 Sean Langman who owns Noakes is racing the smallest and oldest boat in the fleet - Maluka - which is often moored in the bay.
